Followers Call for Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are urging that a man who jumped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the Australian man pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the second of a two-part version of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
