Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.
Jokic injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional contact with teammate Jones.
Jones came down on the footwear of the big man, who promptly went down to the floor grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, that is leading the league season in rebounds and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the injury.
The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to determine the seriousness of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic realized he was hurt," stated Nuggets coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player who suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, especially a player as special as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am focused primarily about Jokic as a person and the frustration of facing something like that."
